Our Story

Luum’s mission has always been the same: create good in the world through employee behavior change. In 2012, CEO Sohier Hall, Chief Technology Officer Tyler Simpson, and Chief Architect Matt Hall created Luum as a platform to encourage employees to do good. We started with incentives and challenges – blood drives, food donations, and bike-to-work day. Then, we set out experimenting with technology and policy in search of ways to encourage positive change, and Luum’s undertaking evolved.

A Seed Is Planted

During our experimentation, we found that organizations everywhere were facing challenges in employee engagement and positive behavior change. We discovered one aspect of employees’ lives was in dire need of transformation: the commute, and we saw that employers had the potential to initiate the transformation. Soon, we were asking ourselves: “why isn’t every day bike-to-work day?”

We saw real change with our first customer; after reducing the need for parking, Seattle Childrens’ Hospital made room for a new medical building. We saw the change that Matt, Sohier, and Tyler envisioned years prior: real, measurable, positive impacts. More hospital beds. Fewer parking spots.
